What is Slow Food?
Slow Food International
Slow Food is a global non-profit organization working towards a world where all people have access to and can enjoy food that is good for them, for those who grow and produce it, and for the planet. The pillars are good, clean and fair food.
Founded in 1986 in Italy, Slow Food operates in 160 countries and has over 100,000 members. Slow Food International runs several projects on topics such as local biodiversity, food culture, and education. Slow Food organizes international events and campaigns focusing on current issues in global and local food systems.
Good stands for quality, nutritious, and tasty food.
Clean stands for food production that is not harmful to the environment.
Fairly produced stands for accessible prices for consumers and good conditions and fair compensation for producers.
Slow Food Västnyland
Slow Food Västnyland works to promote and support the food culture of Västnyland. We want the food we eat to be good, clean and fair! We want to improve the conditions for local small-scale producers and food artisans to operate, and we want to increase people’s interest and understanding of food, where it comes from, and how our food and consumption habits affect the world around us. We think globally but work locally in Western Finland.
Since its foundation in 2009, Slow Food Västnyland has become a significant player in various food contexts, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Through networking and cooperation with various stakeholders, we have continuously built up an ever-growing knowledge bank and a network of contacts from which the region greatly benefits.
The association is bilingual, and its areas of operation are Hanko, Raseborg, Lohja, Inkoo, Siuntio, Kirkkonummi, Espoo, Kauniainen, Vihti, and Karkkila.
